About Venus Shell Systems
Venus Shell Systems is an Australian marine biotechnology company based in Huskisson, NSW. Founded by Dr. Pia Winberg, we develop premium seaweed-derived products for human health and wellness through our consumer brand, PhycoHealth.
Our proprietary SXRG84 extract — an ocean-sourced alternative to hyaluronic acid — is produced at the NSW Marine Biorefinery, where cutting-edge research meets sustainable bioprocessing. Every product is backed by university research partnerships and a zero-waste production model.

The molecules
Grown, not synthesised.
Our seaweed produces sulfated glycans — complex sugars with a particular affinity for the surfaces that line the human body. Comparable molecules in commercial use are derived from animals, harvested from wild fisheries, or synthesised.
A world-first plant-based alternative to hyaluronic acid, one of the most widely used actives in global skincare. Hyaluronic acid in commercial use is typically produced by bacterial fermentation or derived from animal tissue. Ours is grown.

From marine ecologist to biotech CEO, Dr. Pia Winberg has dedicated over two decades to unlocking the potential of Australian seaweed. Her pioneering research at the NSW Marine Biorefinery in Huskisson has transformed how we think about ocean-sourced health and sustainable bioprocessing.
